S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) is a constituent unit of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, which was founded in 1938 by the then Kulpati Dr. K.M. Munshi and 53 other eminent professionals. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950. It is a trust of repute and eminence and is universally recognised for its educational as well as cultural activities.

About the Programme
The Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a two-year, full time, residential programme. The programme offers specializations in finance, operations, marketing and information management and is ranked among the top ten in the country. The emphasis of the programme is to develop in the candidate the ability to translate theory into practice. It aims at promoting an inquiring & analytical mind, which proactively seeks the right knowledge, acquires the appropriate skills and promotes the right attitude to develop capabilities needed to manage enterprises in the twenty-first century. This programme is now in its 25th year and has a number of successful alumni in senior positions across the industry.

Duration
PGDM is a two-year full-time residential programme.

Eligibility
Minimum 3 years of Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized University in India or abroad.

 

Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM)
About the Programme
Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM), earlier known as Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), is a eleven month, full-time, residential programme. The mission of the programme is to create and nurture value-based future leaders taking on higher management roles in transforming organizations.

SPJIMR perceived the need of the industry for thought leaders in middle level management and successfully endeavored to create the PGPM course.The programme which is in its fourth year, has challenged the paradigm of conventional part time courses for working executives. Participants gain management perspectives through an innovative pedagogy of experiential learning and enhanced peer interaction. The programme offers a platform for learning and exchange of ideas with expert faculty. The renowned faculty at the institute facilitates innovative thinking through practical academic inputs and thought-provoking case studies. The programme also has a strong focus on values and ethics.

The unique aspect of the programme is the focus on the specific Role and Domain that the participant is interested to pursue. The customized approach ensures

Positioning and Philosophy
The course caters to specific industry requirements as it combines domain focused expertise with a general management perspective.

The programme has a unique model of combining the one month internship with a comprehensive research paper which gives the participant a holistic approach towards contemporary business environment.

The rapid growth of business has thrown open the need for a very large number of middle level and senior level management professionals in most companies. They are required to have a general management perspective with focused domain expertise on the businesses they serve. The current demand for such professionals is expected to far exceed the availability. Internal promotions within the organization alone will not be sufficient to feed this demand.

The PGPM programme is best suited for working professionals to add value to their careers in a short time. It provides a great opportunity to those participants who want to rejoin the industry quickly at higher remunerations. The programme is rigorous, challenging and intense. Duration
PGPM is a 11 months full-time residential Programme with six months online learning as a pre foundation before joining the course.

Eligibility

Minimum 3 years of Bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized University in India or abroad.
Work experience of 5 years after graduation.

Post Graduate Diploma in Systems Management & Masters in Information Technology

About the Programme
Post Graduate Diploma in Systems Management (PGDSM) & Masters in Information Technology (MIT) is a unique program offered by SPJIMR in collaboration with Virginia Tech (VT), USA. This unique collaboration resulted in the pioneering concept of PGDSM MIT, a two year globally focused dual degree program in systems management, which has now established its firm footing in the industry.

The program leads to

    * Post Graduate Diploma in Systems Management (PGDSM) regarded highly by Top Indian IT companies
    * Masters in Information Technology (MIT) from Virginia Tech, US ranked 9th in US. This gives participants edge to get placements in US and Europe not withstanding visa restrictions enforced from time-to-time.

The program aims to prepare business leaders for IT and consulting organizations who can understand business requirements from both the general management and functional perspective. The pedagogy drives participants to enrich themselves with knowledge of industry domains, emerging trends & challenges and provides a focus towards optimum business solutions delivery.

Duration
PGDSM MIT is a dual degree, integrated full-time 2 years program.

Eligibility
Candidates need to fulfill four years of graduate education (a total of 16 years of formal education) in any one of the following forms:-

    * Engineering degree or
    * Three year Bachelors degree with Maths as a subject/major plus a one year diploma/certificate

 

The Family Managed Business(FMB)

About the Programme
SPJIMR pioneered the Family Managed Business Programme for young family business managers, which is now in its 12th Year.

The Family Managed Business (FMB) programme has a custom designed architecture reflecting the central theme of preparing the participant for leadership of his/her family business. The architecture adopted focuses on the objectives and pedagogy for fulfilling the theme

Family Businesses make numerous and critical contributions to the economy both in terms of money income and such intangibles as time, flexibility, control and personal expertise. Family businesses add the realities of family life to traditional business ethos, expanding the range of issues, personalities, needs and potential solutions for each decision. Knowing something about family types, communication patterns, managerial styles and the amount of support members can expect from their families, may be as important to entrepreneurs as knowing how to reach a market or managing cash flows.

The SPJIMR Family Managed Business Programme was evolved to assist family-owned firms in meeting the unique managerial challenges associated with operating and sustaining a successful family enterprise. The programme helps the students to identify which family dynamics most often affect business decisions, and learn how to overcome these hurdles to continued growth and profitability.

This program is offered by the Centre for Family Businesses in India at SPJIMR, which is committed in its mission to:

    * Further the understanding, growth and development of responsible family-owned business.
    * Celebrate the importance of family enterprises in our economy and our society.
    * To prepare next generation family business leaders for their unique leadership roles.
    * To increase the survival rate of mature family-owned businesses by focusing on opportunities inherent in these enterprises

The connection between entrepreneurship and family business appears to be widely recognized. An entrepreneur is often defined as someone who specializes in making judgmental decisions about the coordination of scarce resources, is institution-free, deals with the factors of risk, and has influence over the flow of information, Although the literature often portrays the entrepreneur as a single individual, family business literature strongly suggests that families are vital and supportive environments for entrepreneurial behavior. Put simply, entrepreneurship is the start and heart of most family managed businesses, and the phenomenon of an entrepreneurial family fosters, subsidises and enhances the efforts of its members who engage in entrepreneurship. "Family business" is a wider-lens view of entrepreneurship, as the initial business effort of one or more family members grows and changes over time.

Duration
The duration of the FMB Programme is 2 years including the foreign visit. The participants spend one week each month at the Centre in learning and the remaining three weeks at their work place, applying the acquired concepts and skills in their business. They also work on specific assignments, reporting to the faculty through e-mail.

Similarly, the duration of the Owner Manager Programme is twelve months.

Eligibility
The FMB Programme is open to graduate family members with a significant stake in the family business. Sponsorship by the business is essential. Selection is through assessment of the application followed by a test and personal interview.

Executive Management Programme

About the Programme

The emerging Business challenges require corporates to create a reservoir of versatile executives with a strong base of functional knowledge along with general management perspective.

SPJIMR's uniquely architectured Executive Management Programme is designed with a potential to address the above shortcomings and fills the gap of providing high quality management education to Practicing executives with minimal absence from their workplace.

SPJIMR's approach to major initiatives has been to formulate details based on definite and distinctive foundational premises. For the Executive Management Programme, these are:

   1. The conventional classroom mode of learning can be leveraged significantly through non-classroom activities- a belief borne out of successful practice of pedagogic approaches at SPJIMR with other programs.
   2. Professional education can be best acquired by a two-stage process of:
         1. acquisition of knowledge of theoretical concepts followed by
         2. application of the concepts to real life situations
   3. Formal management education needs to sensitise participants to appreciate that:
         1. the onus of learning in the ultimate analysis is mainly on the learner
         2. the process of learning needs to be continuous throughout the career and
         3. the sources and methods of learning are varied
   4. Sponsoring companies need to have somewhat of a direct role in assisting the learning experience of the participant- positive gains being:
      (i)wider spread of knowledge within the organisation
      (ii) performance improvement resulting from Executive Management Programme action learning, Application exercises and Projects.
   5. Effective management education for practicing executives needs to be contextual and hence needs to be customised vis-a-vis the organisation and the participant's specific role.

Duration
The programme is spread over 4 phases over a 21-month duration and would involve 60 full days of classes at our campus in Mumbai. The on-campus period is divided into contact periods as under:

   1. Initial contact period of 3 days for the Orientation phase
   2. 6 contact periods each of 9 days duration over the Foundation, Integration and Customisation phases;
   3. Culminating contact period of 3 days for final exams and project presentation.

During the Contact days, participants will put in about 10 to 12 hours of study time. The intervening period of about 10 weeks between two Contact periods would be spent in consolidating the class learning's, submitting assignments ( about 4 to 5 per week) and preparing for the next contact period.

Eligibility
Graduates with minimum 5 years experience and with a good track record and who are backed up/supported by their companies to do the program.
